More Productivity: Expanding Potential of Seed

Syngenta is helping increase crop productivity to meet all needs for food, feed and fuel. The Syngenta pipeline is filled with emerging technology to help customers increase yields and quality. Investments in genetics and “fast track” production allow more new products to be offered each year.

  • Agrisure® corn traits from Syngenta help control yield-robbing insects and diseases, and they offer technology choices, including stacked traits.
  • Corn Amylase, an output trait that will improve the efficiency of ethanol production, is currently being tested in ethanol plants as part of the Syngenta focus on renewable fuels.
  • A broad lepidopteran control trait for cutworms, corn earworm and fall armyworm will likely be available in 2009, and with Agrisure CB/LL and Agrisure RW, it will deliver the broadest insect control available.
  • Syngenta is going beyond drought-resistant corn to introduce water optimization traits, which will reduce the amount of moisture needed to optimize yield and minimize yield loss in drought conditions, as well as reduce water use in average years.
  • Research is in progress to identify genes for a trait that will increase corn efficiency in converting nitrogen to grain.

Sound Agronomics
Today more acres are in continuous corn to meet increasing demand, which requires careful management.

  • Start with the right combination of genetics and traits to fit a field’s conditions and history, and look for hybrids with strong emergence ratings.
  • Protect yield with early-season weed control.
  • Control insects through traits, scouting and in-season insecticides as needed.
  • Manage diseases with hybrid selection, seed treatment and timely in-season fungicide applications.
