Ethanol is now the fastest growing market for U.S. corn, and Syngenta is working to help the industry meet this demand and take advantage of new opportunities.
The Corn Amylase trait is a unique output trait that makes corn more “ethanol-ready,” and it has the potential to increase energy yield per acre and reduce energy and water use in ethanol production.
Corn Amylase is now in full-scale trials at ethanol plants.
Syngenta plans to develop more “specialty” crops to increase plant and processing efficiency over the next few years. And farther down the road, Syngenta technology will support cellulosic ethanol production with the ability to increase plant enzymes to break down the starches in cellulose materials.
